The Terebinth Foundation recently launched the Dame Support Programme, an initiative designed to empower vulnerable women by addressing both their economic and social challenges.
The programme provides small business grants to women in underserved communities, enabling them to strengthen existing enterprises, diversify their income streams, and improve household stability. Beyond financial support, the initiative promotes responsible business practices and sustainable growth.
The inaugural phase of the programme supported eight women engaged in microenterprises such as food vending, retail, and local snack production. Early outcomes indicate improved business continuity, increased daily sales, and enhanced ability to meet household needs.
Rather than offering one-dimensional assistance, the programme takes a holistic approach to ensure long-term stability and success. For example, one beneficiary, a small-scale trader and mother faced multiple barriers that hindered her ability to grow her business. Her shop required urgent repairs, her children’s schooling was at risk due to unpaid fees, and unstable accommodation made it difficult to maintain consistent business operations.
Through the Dame Support Programme, the Foundation renovated her shop to create a safe and functional workspace, provided support toward her children’s educational needs, and assisted in addressing her accommodation challenges. With these burdens eased, she is now able to focus fully on rebuilding and expanding her business.
This comprehensive support model reflects Terebinth Foundation’s commitment to tackling poverty at its roots. By addressing the interconnected realities of livelihood, family welfare, and living conditions, the Foundation ensures that beneficiaries are not only supported in the short term but are positioned for sustainable growth and independence.
